Advancing Openness at Florida Atlantic Libraries
JOIN the Apereo Foundation with Anna Ayoung-Stoute (Assistant Dean for Access, Research and Learning Services, Florida Atlantic University) and, Maris Hayashi, Assistant Dean for Collection Strategies and Discovery Services, Associate University Librarian on July 9th at 11:00 am Eastern for our next Micro Conference.
Talk Description: This presentation outlines Florida Atlantic Libraries’ collaborative efforts to foster and sustain a culture of openness across the campus community. We will highlight a variety of ongoing initiatives designed to encourage faculty and students to support open practices. Additionally, we will highlight how the library is playing a vital role in advocating for openness in scholarly publishing, curriculum design, and research practices. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss best practices, and contribute ideas to promote openness within their institutions.
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize the key initiatives implemented by Florida Atlantic Libraries to promote open practices in scholarly publishing, curriculum design, and research across the campus community.
- Evaluate the role of academic libraries in fostering a culture of openness and identify strategies for advocating open scholarship at their institutions.
- Engage in collaborative discussions to share experiences, exchange best practices, and generate new ideas for advancing openness in higher education.
Anna Ayoung-Stoute oversees the strategic vision and programming for library support in research and scholarship at Florida Atlantic University. She leads Access, Research and Instruction, Digital Scholarship Initiatives and Scholarship, the Medical Team, and the Broward Campus Service Librarian. With over 15 years of experience, primarily in leadership roles, she has contributed to numerous initiatives. She is spearheading the implementation of the Research Hub, a dedicated learning space designed to support the research and instructional needs of graduate and postdoctoral students, doctoral candidates and researchers. Her research interests include instruction and openness primarily in academia, mentorship, and management.
Maris Hayashi, MA, MLS, is the Assistant Dean for Collection Strategies and Discovery Services at Florida Atlantic University, with more than 23 years of experience in academic libraries. Her portfolio includes interlibrary loan and collection management (acquisitions, cataloging/metadata, collection development and analysis, electronic resource management, and serials and continuing resources). She also brings experience in reference and instruction. Prior to joining Florida Atlantic, Ms. Hayashi served as the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator/Evening Supervisor at Mount Mercy University (formerly Mount Mercy College) and as an Information Arcade Consultant at the University of Iowa.
